EXPERTISE & VALUES
With a skilful blend of eyewear tradition and high technology, French frame manufacturing is recognized worldwide for its quality, technical innovation and creativity.
This eyewear tradition is passed on from generation to generation in Haut-Jura, the historic origin of French eyewear manufacturing.
The manufacturing facility is filled with people armed with knowledge and artisanal expertise, from painting, polishing and shining frames by hand, to expertly carving frame bridges, again by hand, for maximum comfort.
Traditional manufacturing complements modern technology such as laser engraving, high frequency bonding techniques and precision acetate cutting machines.

FRENCH ORIGIN GUARANTEE
As a historic leader in the French eyewear manufacturing industry, Lafont has been granted the “French Origin Guarantee” label (Origine France Garantie – OFG). This accreditation was granted in May 2016, after examination of Lafont’s application and an audit of production carried out by Bureau Veritas, an independent accrediting body. The OFG certification currently covers over 80% of the collection; that’s more than 500 optical and sunglass styles.
To obtain the label, two main criteria must be fulfilled:
· The product’s essential characteristics (frame front and temple) must be made in France.
· 50% of the unit cost price must be incurred in France.
This means the front and temples assembly, treatment, polishing and finishing are systematically performed in France by a French manufacturer.
This commitment acknowledges a market demand:
· According to 93% of the French population*, products made in France represent a significant guarantee of quality.
· According to 66% of the French population*, prioritizing “made in France” products is a structural trend that will develop over the long term.
· More than 9 out of 10 French people* are in favour of stricter accreditations than a mere “made in France” label.
